Rio has already proved itself to be the perfect location for national and international events, independent of size or objectives.
Apart from Carnival and New Year, two of the greatest shows on earth, major musical events are held in Rio, such as for example free shows on the beaches or around the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon which attract thousands of people to enjoy an open air spectacle with excellent musical programming allied to the unforgettable beauty of the city.

Among them, we can point out the Rolling Stones Show in the Copacabana Beach on February 2005, or the Black Eyed Peas Band Show, in the Ipanema Beach, in the 2007 New Year’s Eve.
At Glória Marine, there is the TIM Festival, an annual event with electronic music, which its last edition – the 4th one – was on October 2006, gathering for 3 days, in 4 different stages, the biggest names of national and international music.

Another outstanding event is the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. This Festival began in 1999, joining 2 other big cine festivals: the Rio Cine Festival created in 1984 and the National Bank Cine Show born in 1988. Nowadays, the Festival shows more than 300 films, not launched in Brazil and in part of the world, confirming its importance as a cultural debate nucleus through lectures and discussions about the contemporary cine creation. The main winners of Cannes, Sundance and Venice Festivals, and also Oscar are presented to the public during the Rio Festival.

Among the sport events, we can point out the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, already confirmed to be held in Rio until 2007 and the Pan American Games 2007 that will be held in the city next July.
